Dr Jason Erasmus is a male .
Born and raised on a farm in South Africa, Mr Erasmus attended Dental School at the University of Stellenbosch and received his BChD degree in 1990. After graduating from Dental School, he attended Medical School at the University of Stellenbosch and received his medical degree, MBChB in 1993. Staying on at the University of Stellenbosch, he completed his five-year Oral and Maxillofacial residency, receiving his Masters degree, MChD, cum laude in 1999.
Mr Erasmus remained a part-time lecturer at the University of Stellenbosch and was involved with post-graduate teaching for 8 years. After completion of his implant training in Europe, he entered private practice in Cape Town in 2000, where he focused mainly on jaw reconstruction and dento-alveolar surgery, including bone grafting and dental implants.
He and his family located to Christchurch, New Zealand in March 2007. Jason is currently on staff at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial surgery at the Christchurch hospital, where he practices the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery, including facial trauma and facial reconstruction. He is a member of the head and neck cancer unit at the hospital and lecturer at the Otago University Medical School in Christchurch. Besides his public appointment, he is also in part time private practice at Milford Chambers, St Georges Hospital, in association with two colleagues.
Mr Erasmus is particularly interested in jaw surgery to correct jaw deformities as well as reconstruction of the jaw to provide ideal bone for implant placement and esthetic replacement of missing teeth. He has lectured both nationally and internationally on topics pertaining to this field of surgery.
He is registered as an oral and maxillofacial surgeon with both the Medical and Dental Councils of New Zealand and is a member of the New Zealand Dental Association, Australian and New Zealand Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (ANZAOMS), International Association for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and the AO foundation. He is also a fellow of the International Team for Implantology (ITI).
